Abstract
Cultural competence has emerged as a cornerstone in improving healthcare equity, particularly in maternal health. In midwifery, where holistic and patient- centered care is prioritized, cultural awareness plays a critical role in addressing disparities in maternal outcomes across diverse populations. Women from marginalized, minority, and immigrant backgrounds often face barriers to adequate prenatal and postnatal care due to cultural misunderstandings, language barriers, and systemic inequities in healthcare systems. This research paper examines the role of cultural competence in midwifery practices and explores how culturally responsive approaches can enhance maternal health outcomes. By emphasizing patient-centered care, communication, trust- building, and sensitivity to cultural values, midwives can significantly reduce maternal morbidity and mortality while improving patient satisfaction. The study integrates a case study on cultural disparities in prenatal care, data analysis through two tables on disparities and interventions, and a structured questionnaire to assess midwives’ awareness and practices. Ultimately, this work highlights the transformative potential of culturally competent midwifery in bridging health inequities and promoting inclusivity in maternal healthcare
